Between 1846 and 1849, inside this tiny cottage in the bucolic village of Fordham, Edgar Allan Poe wrote some of his most iconic works, as you’ll see listed below. While his wife Virginia was nursed by her mother in a downstairs room near the front door, Edgar occupied a cramped study with slanted walls beneath the eaves, up a steep set of stairs. There, he contemplated the origins of the cosmos and the very nature of reality for his most daring, consequential, and underappreciated book: Eureka.
