Between 1846 and 1849, inside this tiny cottage in the bucolic village of Fordham, Edgar Allan Poe wrote some of his most iconic works, a selection of which is listed below. While his wife Virginia was nursed by her mother in a downstairs room near the front door, Edgar occupied a study with slanted walls beneath the eaves, up a steep set of stairs. There, he contemplated the origins of the cosmos and the very nature of reality for his most daring, consequential, and under appreciated book: Eureka.
